Dalmia Bharat Sugar Goes Global in $132M Africa Expansion

Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd is entering the international bio-energy space with a new $132 million integrated sugar project in Tanzania. Approved on July 14, 2026, the venture is a collaboration between Dalmia Bharat Sugar (holding a 51% stake via a holding company) and Symphony Global LLC (49%), led by Emaar Properties founder H.E. Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar.

The project aims to capitalize on East Africa’s structural sugar deficits through import substitution. Developed across 10,000+ hectares of captive plantations, the first phase will deliver 70,000 tonnes of sugar annually and feature a 20 MW cogeneration facility. Both capacities are built to scale, serving as the foundation for the company's long-term global bio-energy expansion.
